Benita's sister Larissa came out from New Jersey with her dog Shy for an extended July visit. We ventured up to northern California where we enjoyed waterfalls, hiking and swimming (mostly the dogs!). Bill, Benita and Ben also completed the Fall River Century bike ride (100 miles!), while Larissa and the posse rode in the chase truck.

We visited Soldier Mountain fire lookout. What an amazing view and very interesting to talk to the staff there. Also we took a train ride from McCloud up towards beautiful Mt. Shasta.

Next was a RUGGED hike through the Pit River canyon to Pit River Falls. The trail was buried under lava rocks in many places, so the 3.5 mile round trip was quite challenging.
